My name is John Bartlett and I have been introducing beginners and newcomers to the world of trading the financial markets for a number of years. Just check me out on the internet and you will realise that I come from the school of straight talking. I do not believe in hype, holy grails or false promises.

However I do believe very strongly that each person has the ability to learn “Trading” provided that :-

Firstly there are courses out there which will charge you from £2,000 to £3,000 for one or two days training, sit you in a classroom and have someone talk at you all day in the traditional way. They stand in front of you with a big screen and point out to you how you could have made a fortune for little effort, and show you lots of pictures of charts from the past. They usually overwhelm you with examples, give you lots of information, some good, some bad, but mostly unnecessary impressionable waffle, which the average attendee, tries hard to put into practice on their home computers when they get home. What is even more amazing is that they run these courses usually on weekends when the markets are inactive. In my opinion these are highly lucrative money generators for the organisers. I am not saying they give bad information, but teaching trading is a growing industry and many organisations are offering a wide range of introductory courses and “FREE” evening seminars.

They hype up the Big Rewards for Little Effort scenario and the ‘Free Seminars’ have just one purpose. To get you to pay for an expensive trading course, usually a weekend one! They offer big reductions if you make your decision and pay a deposit that night, people are planted in the audience to rush up as soon as the session is completed to “sign up”

But there are an endless stream of people seeking the ‘Holy Grail’ and these skilled marketers or so called ‘Universities’ of trading education are adapt at parting newcomers with their hard earned cash. Many ‘Top Traders’ are flown in from the USA, offering their skills, and guidance and theories, usually complete with their own “System or method” Their skills usually are in the presentation arena and the gullible subscribe to these ‘Weekend’ ventures.

Yes a few bright people will go home enthused and motivated – (in fact most will) – Some will actually profit and become shining examples to be used as ‘Stars’ in future marketing campaigns, many will go home feeling “ripped off” But the majority will go home totally confused with a armful of handouts and the thought that now they need to - subscribe to this piece of software and pay for this expensive data feed. (Usually the organisers are getting a large slice of this fee)

In addition to these, and usually well planted in their minds, because it has been regularly mentioned during the course and all over the weekend, that this is just the start. You really do need the “Advanced Course” or ‘personal tuition’ if you are genuinely serious. This advanced course or the personal one on one tuition will cost an extra few thousand pounds, but it is just what you need to ensure without doubt, your trading success. Does this ring any bells?

Well that is why most people who come into trading get off to a bad start – have bad experiences and are already feeling the frustrations of getting taken for a mug. They soon will join the 90% that will look at trading and fail. They have listened to the hype, but it does not happen for them.

My overall impression is of a very practical course. I don’t have anything to compare it to but I feel armed with knowledge and some experience to start trading, to start with on a demo account.
